Valerie & Jason’s Bold, Modern East Austin Wedding

When I look at the photos from Valerie & Jason’s bold, modern Austin ceremony, it just makes my heart happy. From the moment I met Valerie, her infectious, sweet spirit left a lasting impression on me, and I knew I would be creating some really special invitations for her big day! Valerie and Jason are both creative souls whose vibrant artistic energy comes through in the personal touches throughout their wedding.

The team at Eclipse Event Co. brought an elegant yet authentically East Austin vibe to the affair, held at Tillery Place, surrounded by orange and peach-hued blooms with tropical touches, along with the most stunning marigold garlands, created by Emily Reid at Gypsy Floral. Moontower Rentals designed the perfect laid-back lounge feel for the day.

For Valerie’s custom invitations, I created a few different concepts for the couple to choose from. We ended up combining two of the concepts, pairing with a dramatic inky watercolor texture with bold typography and gold foil stamping. So stunning!

Here’s more of the story in Valerie’s own words, along with gorgeous photography by Kelly Costello Photography:

From Valerie:

“We knew we wanted a blank canvas to bring together all of our favorite colors, foods, sounds and of course, people. The black & white pieces were an obvious choice to match the couple’s style, while accents of bright colors were eclectically mismatched, from the bride’s closest women in jumpsuits, to the greenery and florals of the succulent garden setting. Giant black & white checked flooring, striped parisols and linens met the unfinished wood altar, Airstream trailer bar and modern lounge furniture for a perfect mix of eclectic style and Texas flare.

Often wearing a jumpsuit or leotard, the bride fell in love with a bodysuit handcrafted by two best friends who treat vintage laces for custom bridal-ware and paired it with a full tulle skirt and simple full length veil. The groom wore a slim- fitting classic tux and his signature black and white Adidas Gazelles.

The floral design included a mix of tropical greens, succulents, bright tulips, poppies and spiky blooms in shades of sunshine and kelly green. Inspired by the movie CoCo, marigolds were scattered around the alter to represent a bridge of living and spiritual souls.”

A Handmade Touch & Heirloom Details

Guys, can we just gush about this altar (above, right) for a minute?!? I’m blown away – not only by the beauty of this custom piece that made a stunning backdrop for the ceremony, but also that the couple generously gifted this piece to the venue for other couples to use in the future. How sweet is that? The altar itself has a mid-century meets Bali vibe while still feeling completely unique. More from Valerie:

“The altar was hand-built the day before the wedding by local artists and friends of the groom. Strips of reclaimed wood were pieced together onsite to provide the perfect backdrop for the wedding and gifted to the venue to be enjoyed by couples to come.

Jason’s Mom handmade the bride’s garter and a prayer book cover with pieces of lace from Valerie’s late mother’s wedding dress. The rings were tied to a German prayer book signed with names and wedding dates by relatives of the groom for the last 150. The book was brought over with the first immigrants to come to America on the groom’s mothers side and carried down the aisle by the father of the groom, Jason’s best man, and covered with lace from the bride’s late mother’s wedding dress.

Looking upon the faces of our guests and thanking them from stage with an explosive toast, the groom cut off the top of a champagne bottle with a personalized saber while the bride voiced their gratitude for the love shown in support of their marriage. The father of the bride extended the band beyond the planned schedule and a full dance floor boogied to a live cover of Tina Turner’s Proud Mary under the tent lights and stars.”

Finally, Valerie has some words of wisdom for brides-to-be:

“Don’t let the opinions of others alter your vision. Create a setting that welcomes your most special moments with comfort and color that best suits you.”

Thank you, Valerie and Jason, for sharing the amazing details of your special day here; I was so honored to create your wedding stationery!

xo, Ashley
