Carmen of LoveBash Designs

So excited to bring you a new edition of our Vendor Profiles! I first spotted LoveBash on Instagram, and got to know owner Carmen when we were “booth neighbors” at The Swoon Event recently. I absolutely love her creative approach to wedding design. Her inventive business model lets brides access top-notch design ideas and vendor recommendations for their event, without actually hiring a full-time planner. Pretty neat!

Read on below for the full interview:

Welcome Carmen! Tell us a bit about your background and what led you to start LoveBash.

I first dipped my toes into the wedding planning industry during my sophomore year of college. I interned with Emily Leach at Bird Dog Wedding for two years, and then started working with her as a lead event planner and designer after I graduated. I loved helping brides create the wedding of their dreams from start to finish, but after a couple of years, the stress of managing all of those planning logistics started to burn me out.

I still had a passion for the design aspect of wedding planning, so I started searching for ways to build on that when the idea of LoveBash came to me. LoveBash is a wedding e-design service that connects brides with professional wedding planners who help them design their big day. It’s the perfect solution for brides who are excited about planning their own wedding, but want some help creating a cohesive aesthetic and bringing all of the design details to life.

I was immediately drawn to your branding – you have a strong design sense and an eye for bold, fun colors! Could you tell us a bit about the process of creating your brand?

Why thank you! Graphic design is one of my favorite creative outlets, so I really wanted to have fun when creating LoveBash’s brand identity. I feel like so many vendors in the wedding planning industry have very similar branding styles – neutral color palettes, serif typefaces, overexposed photos. And while I am drawn to how clean and classic that aesthetic looks, I knew I wanted LoveBash to stand out in the crowd. Our color palette is happy, bright, and modern. Our graphics remind you of rainbow sprinkles or a confetti explosion! The wedding planning process should be fun, and our branding reflects that. We want brides to feel excited about celebrating their big day with LoveBash.

What’s the most rewarding aspect about what you do?

To me, the best feeling is seeing how excited a bride gets when all of the design details of her wedding start coming together. When things start to click, she instantly lights up. It can be so easy to get caught up in all of the to-do lists and timelines of planning a wedding, but when it comes down to it, your wedding day should be about celebrating true love and your personal style with your family and friends.

Do you have any tips for engaged couples who aren’t sure if they need to hire a wedding planner?

My biggest piece of advice is to figure out how much time you want to (or are able to) devote to planning your wedding. Do you have a full-time job, or are you able to attend meetings with vendors during the day? Will your fiancé be in charge of certain tasks, or will you be responsible for planning everything yourself? Answering these questions early will inform you what kind of wedding planner is best for you. I always recommend that brides hire at least a day-of coordinator at the very minimum. Even if you and your mom are capable of planning the wedding on your own, you’ll still want someone there on your actual wedding day whose sole focus is making sure everything goes according to plan.

There are so many details that go into wedding style and decor – how do you hone in on the best ideas for your clients?

Most of our clients come to us with a few ideas in mind and one or two vendors already booked. This gives us a good start to honing in on their personal style. We meet with our clients one-on-one to talk through the entire wedding from start to finish from a design perspective. We discuss color palettes, event look and feel, invitation suites, flowers they love, their preference on dishware, glassware, and flatware, etc. After that meeting, we really try to refine what exactly the client is looking for and build off of that. For us, collaboration is key to creating their dream wedding.

What wedding trends are inspiring you right now?

I’m a firm believer that you don’t have to have a huge budget in order to achieve great design, so right now I’m really loving the strategic mix of high budget and low budget décor items. We recently put together a photo shoot that included tabletop pieces from Anthropologie, Terrain, Target, and JoAnn Fabric. The lower budget items were just as beautiful as some of the more costly pieces, and people loved realizing just how accessible good design can be.

What have been some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned as a new business owner?

You can’t do it alone! I’ve always been the kind of person who wants to do everything myself, but as a new business owner, there’s seriously not enough hours in the day to get everything done. I’ve learned to ask for help from other people I trust, and to outsource certain aspects of my business that I’m not an expert at, like accounting. It really streamlines your day-to-day workflow when you set yourself up for success and aren’t forcing yourself to be in charge of every little detail.

Describe your perfect day.

8:00 AM – Wake up with the sun. No alarm necessary.

9:00 AM – Meet a friend for breakfast. My go-to is scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and bacon.

11:00 AM – Take my goldendoodle Paddington for a walk around the lake.

1:00 PM – Stop by the bookstore to pick up some new reads. I love self-help books and interior design magazines.

3:00 PM – Grab some frozen yogurt (original tart + mini M&M’s). It’s my weakness!

6:00 PM – Try a new restaurant for dinner. My current favorite is The Peached Tortilla.

8:00 PM – Curl up on the couch with Paddington for a movie night in. Right now we’re watching Iris on Netflix.
