Planning a styled editorial photoshoot during a pandemic is no small feat, but Ellen Westcott of Westcott Weddings pulled it off with style and grace, dreaming up this shoot for Brides of Austin. I was excited to see Ellen’s ideas pop up in my inbox; this talented Austin-based wedding planner makes everything she touches both beautiful and refined, while still creating a fun, relaxed vibe. Ellen’s vision for the shoot was inspired by her love of the bright, cheerful colors of citrus fruits, incorporating those into a sophisticated yet whimsical wedding look. Kristin La Voie Photography perfectly captured all the delightful details of the day.
A Bright & Cheerful Occasion
For the citrus-themed wedding invitations (by yours truly here at Fine Day Press), I wanted to keep things romantic and fun, incorporating vibrant lemon tones without letting the color overwhelm the sweet and simple design. We used a beautifully crafted calligraphy style in the design, in a soft gray tone – black lettering would be too harsh with the bright yellow – and picked up the color palette with playful envelopes in yellow and coral. To bring in a little more citrus, an envelope liner featuring a vintage botanical illustration of a lemon tree ties the whole invitation suite together.

In addition to the prettiest lemon-hued cake accented with orange slices & white blossoms, Two Tarts Bakery provided the cutest, temptingly sweet dessert “charcuterie” board, shown below.
Vibrant Florals & Chic Details
Ellen enlisted the dream team at Remi & Gold to capture the citrus tones in the stunning floral arrangements. These flowers are bringing the happy, joyful vibes, big time! While the bright hues bring to mind a spring or summer wedding, citrus accents can work for any season. You can use citrus details to bring a little color to a winter wedding, and accent with lots of greenery and beeswax pillar candles.
The Save the Date card we created turns up the playful element with fun watercolor florals to set a cheery tone for the big day to come. Wouldn’t you be psyched to get this sweet card in the mail?
Modern Hill Country Vibes
For this styled shoot, Mae’s Ridge, is the perfect modern-rustic hill country venue, with high ceilings, modern light fixtures and enough white shiplap to make Joanna Gaines jealous. Just outside of Austin, Texas, this location provides a gorgeous backdrop of oak trees and views for days. Loot Rentals enhanced the elegant ambiance, setting the scene with modern-farmhouse furniture. Ever the thoughtful planner, Ellen kept the rest of the elements neutral to really let the florals pop. Well done! This is why having a wedding planner with a vision is key – to provide you with the expertise to pull off a look that’s both colorful and sophisticated.
